That one time I decorated a pumpkin...

Story time:
Last year my husband's former workplace had a pumpkin decorating contest. He knew it was right up my alley and asked if I would take on the task of completing an entry for him. Of course I'd happily oblige even though he'd take credit for my pumpkin, but we're practically the same person now so...I like to joke with him that whats his is mine, and whats mine is also mine. ah, I love the seƱora life!

At the time we had finished binging Game of Thrones in its entirety. The biggest perk of jumping onto a series late in the game is you don't have to wait for new episodes to drop every week. We started watching Showtime's Kidding and it's been a little frustrating having to wait every Sunday for the next episode. When we get into a show, we get INTO it. I mean we will binge tf out of it. Watching shows that have finished or have multiple seasons out is crucial. Anyways, I'm getting off topic, you'll find that I do this a lot...Here's some WOP (work in progress) pictures...Can you guess what our pumpkin was?

...It's the freakin' NIGHT KING! ^ o ^ whut, whut!!!
Whitewalkers are the creepiest. If I crossed paths with a Whitewalker I would shit myself, and then probably die because I don't have dragon glass or the balls to even try to fight it. My fight or flight reaction wouldn't even be an option here, it would be "freeze and void your  bowels"

By the way this is Crayola Air Dry clay. With a little water it becomes so easy to manipulate and its a v fun medium to work with. Terribly messy though. I had a hell of a time getting some of it to stay on the pumpkin, pieces would dry and crack off. I had to go over it few times to reinforce parts of the face. Would I work with this clay again? absolutely! Would I use it to decorate a pumpkin again? not at all! Once I got to a point were I liked how it looked, it was time to paint. I use acrylic, all the time. I actually have never messed with gesso or oil paint. If it's not watercolor its acrylic paint.

I'll have to say I wasn't 100% happy with how it came out. Sculpting a face onto a circular pumpkin isn't easy. The eyes could have been bigger. They are a little beady but I had a deadline to meet for this contest! I could've spent forever adding more here, there and tweaking it but for the most part I think its still a cool pumpkin for the time I spent on it.

I went with "Winter is Here" rather than "Winter is Coming" because if you're a GOT fan, waiting for the final season next year *tears* than you know winter is no longer coming, shit already hit the fan.

BUT DID YOU WIN THE CONTEST???
hahahahahahaha
no silly, Gilbert took it to work and found out that he had missed the deadline date and winners were already chosen. Basically I made this pumpkin for myself. I laugh now but at the time it was upsetting...but only a bit. My competitive nature felt robbed of a winning chance.  :P I told Gilbert he should have left it in a random store parking lot. Imagine going to Walmart for some shampoo and finding this little guy in a shopping cart outside. well I thought it would have been funny...
