It's that time of the school year again:
100 Days of School!
Kindergarten was asking parents to send students to school as little old men and ladies ("100 year olds") This is something you could easily throw together on a whim. All it is, is a bit of dry shampoo, some makeup and a mix and match up of our wardrobe. I give you: Granny Aviva!
She loved it as much as I did. I forgot to add "crows feet" and forehead wrinkles, so don't forget those!! The glasses were some sunglasses that I didn't mind punching out the lenses. 





Notice the kitty cat skirt! Of course she had to take on the "Old Crazy Cat Lady" persona. We love cats, what can I say!

Last year for Pre-K, the theme was make shirts that represent 100 days. Aviva requested
an alien shirt with 100 eyes after browsing similar ideas on the Pinterest~
Puffy paint markers, fabric glue and 100 googly eyes later and here we were:


Every time I look at it, it makes me a bit uncomfortable. I think I should have used bigger eyes because all the tiny black dots is inducing myself with mild trypophobia. If you don't know what that is, but feel a little tingly looking at the shirt, then I suggest you don't look it up. Google images trypophobia is relentless.

Aviva's rainbow/paint party

Last year my sister in law and I pulled off something short of a miracle. If you throw last minute birthday parties, then you're a miracle worker as well. Aviva wanted a rainbow party for her 5th birthday. Lemme tell you, homegirl is obsessed with rainbows. Instead we took that idea and ran with it mixing a bit of a paint/artist themed party as well. It was colorful, cute and def worth it all.  Let me add that all the things we found were from Party City, Dollar Tree, Walmart, Target, Hobby Lobby and (god bless) Amazon Prime. These places are your best friends when it comes to party decorations.    I think you could never go wrong with streamers. They are cheap, easy to use, come in every possible color and add a little more personality to any celebration.   The clear paint cans and paint brushes were bought in separate sets off of Amazon. A Vocabulary Parade

What the heck is a vocabulary parade ? I know, I thought the same thing when I got the newsletter sent home in Aviva's backpack. Apparently its something schools do sometimes. Not just my child's elementary. You pick a word. Any word in the dictionary is fair game. Then you make a costume that depicts that word. The school then invites all the parents to watch the students have a parade, hence the parade part. Everyone shows off their word costumes. -aww! There was a list of words sent home I guess to help get the creative juices flowing. I was looking at the words and thinking how am I suppose to come up with a costume for "obtuse" or "aquatic" etc... This was going to require a little thinking outside the box. On top of that, I had already expended my efforts and budget for costumes making Aviva's Vanellope Von Schweetz costume : P So I needed to be able to make it with stuff we already had. A Trip to the Asian Market

We're gonna talk about AZN SNAKS...like *me* juuuust kidding~ If you've ever been to an asian food store/grocer/market then you know the two most prominent sections of the place:  1. The pungent seafood area (try walking past this section without holding your breath, I dare you) and 2. The snack aisle. Oh, behold! The glorious foreign treats and sweets from the orient. Shelves colorfully lined with products in Japanese labels. Also in abundance here; drinks in funky glass bottles and packages with anime characters or ridiculously cute animals. If sweets aren't your craving, there's always chips-a-plenty for whatever you fancy. The struggles of being an Asian kid were real, and sugary...real sugary. Growing up half an asian kid, I never left the Filipino store empty handed. That would be a crime. Fast forward till now, and I still get the spark of excitement of going to the asian market store.
