Library Haul (Pt.1)

Image
I got this idea to start doing library hauls to share with you some of the books that I believe deserve a little recognition. I have to go to the library quite often because Aviva needs to read for 20 minutes every night as part of her homework. It doesn’t sound like a lot of time but it definitely feels like it is when you breeze through picture books. Since the books we check out are for (younger) children, we usually can read about 2-4 books in that time frame. If you do the math, on average, that's about 15 books during the school week. As a result you can imagine what a trip to the library looks like, if not, think about leaving with the motherload stack of books. Now I know you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover -figuratively and literally- but let’s be real, not all books are created equal. I decided to help you out by doing all the work and weeding out anything less than worth your time…or your read aloud voice in my case. I have chosen these books based off of illustrati...

HUNNED DAZE-O-SKOOL

Image
It's that time of the school year again: 100 Days of School! Kindergarten was asking parents to send students to school as little old men and ladies ("100 year olds") This is something you could easily throw together on a whim. All it is, is a bit of dry shampoo, some makeup and a mix and match up of our wardrobe. I give you: Granny Aviva! She loved it as much as I did. I forgot to add "crows feet" and forehead wrinkles, so don't forget those!! The glasses were some sunglasses that I didn't mind punching out the lenses.  Notice the kitty cat skirt! Of course she had to take on the "Old Crazy Cat Lady" persona. We love cats, what can I say! >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Last year for Pre-K, the theme was make shirts that represent 100 days. Aviva requested an alien shirt with 100 eyes after browsing similar ideas on the Pinterest~ Puffy paint markers...

BANG Energy Drinks: An HONEST REVIEW

Image
I know these drinks have been around for quite some time now (like years, I took the late train ) but as a self diagnosed caffeine addict I figure my opinion holds some value to anyone who has yet to try these drinks. Considering Bang isn't as popular as Monster/Rockstar/Red Bull products I would imagine there is still a number of people who haven't heard of them. Let me begin by saying these are more than just an "energy drink" but definitely a "pre-workout drink". Each can of Bang delivers a high amount of caffeine at 300mg. According to the Red Bull website " One 8.4 oz can of Red Bull Energy drink contains 80mg of caffeine, about the same amount as in a cup of coffee." That means Bang energy drinks have over triple the amount of Red Bull. Something to consider if you're caffeine sensitive or regularly consume coffee or other caffeinated products. Personally I don't drink energy drinks because I'm not a fan of the sugar content or ...

Puppy Pudding Cups, A Valentine's Day Craft

Image
Wanted to share RQ a Valentine's Day craft idea. These are good for those who can appreciate non-candy Valentine's perfect for a school snack time. They are easy  to make and don't require a lot of your time. I made 8 of them for Aviva's Girl Scout troop and it took about an hour. I don't know if I would make 21 of them for her Kindergarten class. That would be a bit time consuming but if you're wiling to put in the effort, then go for it you over achieving badass, you. This is my take on a similar pin I had seen of some pudding cups decorated to look like puppies. The original post utilized foam to make the ears/nose/mouth. I utilized whatever I had left over in my craft box. ;) Waste not, want not ok ok~  Originally I was going to make "LOVE MONSTERS" but thought puppies would be cuter. aaaand I'm all about the cute. Turning Snac Packs into characters is actually a thing lol You can look up robots, Minions, penguins etc. and yes, puppers. The ri...

DIY ornaments

Image
Hi there sweethearts, hope you had a holly jolly Xmas. Ok, so long time no bloggy, but I've been enjoying my holidays. I put working out on the back burner, and rightfully so. If you didn't eat a bunch of holiday sweets and yummy deliciousness than what is you doing baby? So aside from being away because of festivities I've been gettin' my craft on. I've been sitting on a tub of air-dry clay for over a year now and something needed to be done about that. When Aviva got a paper sent home from school asking for an ornament for her classroom's Christmas tree, I felt this was the opportunity. Now I wasn't sure how this would all turn out but in the end it was a learning experience through the process. I wanted Aviva to take something that was representative of her. Since we moved from Texas only recently the cactus tree was a quirky but appropriate idea. After sculpting it out I waited overnight for it to dry. Next, it needed a hook so it coul...

A Trip to the Asian Market

Image
We're gonna talk about AZN SNAKS...like *me* juuuust kidding~ If you've ever been to an asian food store/grocer/market then you know the two most prominent sections of the place:  1. The pungent seafood area (try walking past this section without holding your breath, I dare you) and 2. The snack aisle. Oh, behold! The glorious foreign treats and sweets from the orient. Shelves colorfully lined with products in Japanese labels. Also in abundance here; drinks in funky glass bottles and packages with anime characters or ridiculously cute animals. If sweets aren't your craving, there's always chips-a-plenty for whatever you fancy. The struggles of being an Asian kid were real, and sugary...real sugary. Growing up half an asian kid, I never left the Filipino store empty handed. That would be a crime. Fast forward till now, and I still get the spark of excitement of going to the asian market store. Conditioned into my being: the concept ...
